I caught up with LeeAnna from www.ILOVERNERDGIRLS.com in order to interview her about cosplaying. She totally stood out in some fan vids I saw a while back and I have been smitten with her work since then! Let’s see what she has to say!

1. When did you start cosplaying and why?

I started cosplaying a few years ago. My favorite holiday is Halloween and I couldn’t see why I should have to wait until October to play dress up. I am not a hardcore cosplayer but I do enjoy it!

2. How do you decide what to cosplay?

It can be hard to decide at times but I make sure and pick characters that mean something to me. My decision to cosplay Mario and Chewbacca came from my love of both characters as a child.

3. What characters have been your favorite to cosplay so far and why?

So far my favorite cosplay has been my “Wookini”, I am a huge Star Wars fan and I had never seen a female take on Chewbacca. I like being able to bring some originality to my cosplay and not simply mimic the characters costumes. And who doesn’t love Chewbacca 🙂

4. What are the positives and negatives of cosplaying in your opinion?

Just like most things, cosplay does have its positives and negatives. As for the positives, you get to play dress-up and be creative. Most importantly its just plain FUN.

As for the negatives, it is a time consuming process, but as long as you are patient you will do just fine.

5. What has been the hardest costume for you to create/obtain so far?

My “Wookini” was pretty difficult to create. I had never worked with such thick fur fabric and I found it a pain to sew. 90% of the costume was hand sewn so it was pretty time consuming.

6. What cosplay costume(s) are you working on right now?

I have a few costumes in the works that will be debuted at Comic-Con 2012 so keep your eye out.

7. Who/what else are you looking forward to cosplaying in the future?

I would tell you but then I would be giving away my surprise, but make sure to stay tuned 🙂

8. We sure will! Can you share a few tips for beginners?

The most important thing is to have fun! – Also don’t be discouraged when things don’t work out the first try. It takes a lot of trial and error when you are making costumes from scratch so make sure you always have extra materials.

Solid advice! Lovely responses from the ghoul of your dreams.
